DESIGNED TO STAY
The JRG Studio Standard
Homes you never have to leave.

The Promise
Most homes are designed for the day you move in. We design
for every version of you who will live there.
A great home should not ask you to leave it. Not when the stairs get longer. Not when a knee
gives out, or a shoulder, or a decade. The finest remodel in the world is a failure if you have to
move out of it before you're ready.
So we build the other way. We call it Designed to Stay — and the name means two things at
once. A home designed so you can stay in it, through every season of your life. And craft
designed to stay beautiful, long after the trend that inspired it has gone.
Everything else in this studio grows out of that one idea.

Who Builds This
Three things behind every project. None of them are common.
The paramedic's eye.
Before this studio, Steve Jeffers spent eighteen years as a 911 paramedic. That is not a line on
a résumé — it is a way of seeing a home. Where a fall happens. What a threshold costs. How a
room has to work when someone is not at their strongest. Most remodelers learn safety from a
code book. We learned it in people's homes, on their worst days, and we build so those days
are less likely to come.
The broker's ledger.
Steve has held a California real estate broker license since 1994 and has valued more than
thirteen thousand properties. So a Designed to Stay project is never only a remodel — it is a
decision about an asset. We can show you, in plain numbers, what it means to protect the
home you already own against a forced sale, or against the cost of leaving it. Few builders can
have that conversation. Fewer still can be trusted with it.
The craftsman's hand.
The people who design your project are the people who build it. Through JRG Studio, we still
work wood by hand. That standard — an object made by someone who cares how it lasts —
runs through every room we touch.

The Philosophy
Invisible by design.
There is a kind of accessible remodel you already picture: the grab bar bolted on, the ramp
that announces itself, the bathroom that looks a little like a hospital. We don't build that. We
never have.
The best universal design disappears. The support is there when a hand reaches for it, and un‐
seen when it doesn't. The threshold is simply gone. The lighting is warm and even, and no one
calls it a safety feature. Every choice does two jobs — one you see, one you feel — and only
one of them is ever spoken aloud.
This is the difference between building for a limitation and building for a life. We build for the
life.

How It Shows Up
One standard. Two ways to reach it.
Designed to Stay is not a room you add on. It is the standard the whole studio builds to. It
shows up in two forms.
Within the home you have — Signature Remodels.
When the bones are good and the location is loved, we bring the Designed to Stay standard
into the rooms you already live in. Kitchens that work for two cooks or seated ones. Bathrooms
that become the best room in the house. A main floor that quietly holds everything you need.
From the ground up — Custom Builds.
When you're starting fresh, we design permanence in from the first line. Nothing retrofitted,
nothing compromised — a home built, from the foundation, to keep its promise.
Two paths. The same standard. You never trade beauty for foresight, because with us they
were never separate things.

The Signature Work
Three projects at the heart of the studio.
The Forever Bath.
The single most important room to get right, and the one we've made our signature. A curb‐
less spa shower, a bench that looks like design and works like support, warm even light, and
finishes that will still feel current in twenty years. Beautiful the day it's built. Livable for the
rest of your life.
The Primary Suite, on the main floor.
The quiet luxury of never needing the stairs. We create or convert a full primary suite — bed‐
room and bath — on the ground level, so the home works completely on one floor, whether
that matters this year or in fifteen.
The Whole-Home Standard.
Our flagship. The entire home brought to the Designed to Stay standard — flow, light,
thresholds, and craft resolved throughout, so the house is ready for every version of the life
inside it.
Each project is scoped individually. Every engagement begins with a Planning Con‐
versation and, when it's the right fit, a Pre-Construction Agreement — a credited de‐
posit that reserves your place on our calendar and puts real design work in motion.

How We Work
The path is short, and it's human.
1. The Planning Conversation.
We start by talking — not measuring, not selling. A real conversation about your home, your
plans, and what staying means to you. It's free, and it's with a person, not a form.
2. The Pre-Construction Agreement.
When it's clearly the right fit for both of us, a credited deposit reserves your place and begins
the design in earnest. It comes off the cost of the work.
3. The Build.
A two-person studio means the people you met are the people in your home. Small by
intention. It's how the standard holds.
There is no pressure in this process, and no rush. We only take on a handful of projects a year,
and we'd rather build the right ones well.

Who This Is For
The people who plan on purpose.
The clients who find their way to Designed to Stay tend to have a few things in common.
They've lived in their homes long enough to love them. They research before they commit.
They're unhurried, and they value things made well. And they'd rather make a wise decision
early than an urgent one late.
They're not remodeling out of fear. They're remodeling out of foresight — because the
smartest time to design a home you'll never have to leave is well before you'd ever need to.
If that's how you think, we should talk.
The Invitation
Start with a conversation.
There's no cost, no obligation, and no pressure — just a conversation about your home and what you'd like it to keep giving you.
